On December 4, 2022, an anonymous woman took to the “AITA” subreddit to share her story. She described how her mother-in-law had moved in with her and her husband a month earlier, leading to unsettling incidents in their bedroom. Objects were rearranged, personal items appeared to have been tampered with, and an air of discomfort had enveloped her.
As a result, the woman faced severe criticism from her husband, his mother, and their extended family, all labeling her as a deceitful manipulator.

She couldn’t help but conclude that her mother-in-law was behind these peculiar occurrences despite her husband being the only one with access to their bedroom. When she finally confronted her husband about her suspicions, he dismissed her claims, insisting that his mother would never engage in such intrusive behavior.
Frustrated by her inability to prove her hunch, the woman concocted an ingenious plan. To catch her mother-in-law in the act or extract a confession, she placed a fake positive pregnancy test in the bedroom’s trashcan strategically positioned near the closet.

The following day, while at work, her phone erupted with calls and text messages from her in-laws. “The next day after I got to work, I got tons of calls and texts from my [in-laws] ‘congratulating’ me for my ‘pregnancy,'” recalled the woman.
Her husband, visibly agitated, confronted her at her workplace, demanding to know when and why she hadn’t informed him of her pregnancy. She probed him about how he had discovered the pregnancy test, and he admitted that his mother had found it in the bedroom trashcan.
