Volunteer Firefighters Bring The House Down With Latest Dance Challenge

Firefighters are known for their decisive moves and strong work ethic. Grueling practice, long hours, and the constant requirement to put their life on the line. At the end of a long shift, it’s understandable if they want to just sit down and relax.

But at the Alnwick Haldman Fire Rescue station in Canada, firefighters don’t wrap it up at the end of the day. Instead they dance it up. Six firefighters decided to join the Git Up challenge launched by Blanco Brown’s song “The Git Up.”

Remembering the steps is easy because they are the lyrics of the song. Brown uploaded a tutorial on YouTube to coincide with his music video. Thousands of people across the country started to Git Up.

But these firefighters took it to a new level. Sure, others may be gittin’ up, but they are more ‘normal’ dances, with regular clothes and costumes. Besides busting the moves with distinctive not-really-dancers-but-trying-to-be grace, these brave souls manage to git through the entire song in their heavy firefighter garb. No one can doubt their endurance!

The fun video comes as no surprise to the small, close-knit community. As one happy resident said on Youtube, “Our Volunteer Fire Department is exceptional with awesome people!”

Members of this special troupe gets a solo in the video, a chance to shine individually with their own move. They take full advantage of the limelight. Who knew suspenders could be used as a dance prop?

Tipping a helmet recalls some classic Fred Astaire dance moves and swapping out the helmet for a cowboy hat adds a country flair. When Blanco Brown sings the cue to “Do the Butterfly,” they obey in impressive synchronicity. However, even these heroes can’t manage to keep straight faces.

Part of the underlying warmth of the video comes from the fact that we know these people are willing to sacrifice so much for us, and here they are going one (dance) step further to bond with their neighbors. It also shows how they realize that their job comes with an inherent need to de-stress. What a great way to go about it!

Show your appreciation for these footloose firefighters by sending the story on to your friends and family, they will surely enjoy the smiles.
