Old Rules From 1950’s Have Women Fuming

We don’t have to look back very far to realize that things have changed. In fact, things tend to change from one generation to another, and sometimes they change from one week to the next.

When we look back a lifetime ago, however, we notice that things have changed significantly.

Just imagine waking up in the 1950s and seeing all the different things that existed then prior to them being a part of our lives today.

Some of the most shocking things that came from the 1950s are the marriage advice that came from the experts. Here are some of those suggestions that can really show you the changes we have faced.

1. Keep a Smile on Your Face: In 1950 and throughout the decade, it was recommended that women should smile, even if they don’t feel like it.

2. Be Silent: The husband ruled the roost in many households and a wife was never to question any of his decisions. She also shouldn’t question anything else, or he may end up going elsewhere for intimacy.

3. Pink Underwear: It was recommended that wives were to wear pink underwear that were frilly around the edges. I’m not sure where this recommendation came from.

4. Keep Control of the Kids: Kids can be problematic but when the father was around, the wife was to make sure they behaved. Things certainly have changed!

5. Keep Him around with Cooking: It was recommended that you learn how to be a good cook so your husband would stay faithful.

6. Prepare for Dinner: Not only was the wife responsible for making the meal and setting the table, she should also look perfect for the occasion.

7. Find a Sexual Medium: It was always recommended that a wife balance her sexuality. She shouldn’t be too prudish but she shouldn’t be too sexual.

8. Accept Indiscretions: If the husband cheated, the wife was supposed to forgive him. Perhaps this is because she was made to feel as if everything was her fault.

9. The Man Is the Boss: It was thought that the man was in charge of everything around the house. This was something that was to be accepted without question.

As you can tell, things have certainly changed over the years. I wonder how much more they will change in another 70 years.
