Gardener wraps cut banana around a rose stem for simple gardening hack that earns 22M views

Plant cloning is a process used for asexual reproduction, aiming to create exact genetic replicas of a parent plant, and the advantages of plant cloning are numerous.

However, it’s essential to be mindful of potential drawbacks associated with extensive cloning usage, such as reduced genetic diversity and increased susceptibility to diseases or environmental changes in plant populations.

These concerns warrant careful consideration and management to maintain plant species’ overall health and resilience.

That is why we should always seek the expertise of those who have been successful in doing it, just like the man in this viral video.

It’s from the YouTube channel called ‘Vườn & Nhà‘, which means Garden & House.

Is plant cloning easy? Let’s all find out.

Materials:

  • 1 Banana (middle part)
  • Perlite
  • Cutter
  • Cable tie (medium)
  • Rose (or any healthy and disease-free parent plant of your choice)
  • Pruning shears or scissors
  • Twigs
  • Plastic cup
  • Moist soil

If you have gathered all the needed materials, then you are all set to start. Just follow the steps listed below and you should be good to go.

Step 1: To initiate the cloning process, you’ll need a parent plant. Choose a healthy stem and create a vertical incision in the middle using a cutter. Insert perlite into the incision.

Step 2: Take a twig and use a cable tie to secure it horizontally around 3-4 inches below the incision.

Step 3: Prepare a banana by removing the ends and cutting it in the middle. Wrap the banana around the stem, ensuring that it covers the perlite.

Step 4: Use cable ties to secure the banana wrap in place. Typically, three zip ties are used in the process.

Step 5: Once everything is secure, take a plastic cup and cut it on one side and underneath. Place it over the wrapped stem and secure it with cable ties once again.

Step 6: Fill the cup with moist soil to create a suitable environment for the clone to develop.

Step 7: Use sticks or supports to stabilize both the clone and the parent plant. Ensuring the clone’s weight is well-supported prevents accidental breakage.

Step 8: After 25 days, it’s time to check on the clone’s progress.

Step 9: Carefully remove all the cable ties and detach the base of the clone from the parent plant. Also, take off the plastic cup and soil to reveal the roots.

Step 10: Finally, cut the base of the clone and transfer it to a separate pot for further growth.

What are the benefits of plant cloning?

Plant cloning is a powerful technique with numerous benefits in agriculture and research.

It replicates desirable traits, ensures crop consistency, saves time in reproduction, preserves endangered species, and aids in disease management and genetic research.

Cloning also facilitates the propagation of genetically modified plants, conserves rare species, and maintains unique ornamental plants in horticulture and landscaping.

It plays a crucial role in conservation, propagation, agricultural progress, and scientific discoveries.

You can also save a lot of time and money in plant cloning, thus making it one of the best plant reproduction methods ever.
