What they discovered inside was nothing short of astounding – a perfectly formed egg nestled within the larger one. “It’s truly incredible to find two perfectly formed eggs nestled together,” Scott shared in an interview with ABC News Australia.

This rare phenomenon drew the attention of experts, including Associate Professor Raf Freire from Charles Sturt University’s veterinary sciences school, who admitted he’d never seen anything quite like it before.

Understanding the Anomaly: Expert Opinion

According to Prof. Freire, the hen likely produced an egg as usual but didn’t lay it for some reason. He explained, “The next day, instead of the first egg being laid as it normally would be, another ovum was released. This new ovum then descended, and the chicken somehow decided to form a shell around both the previous day’s egg and the new ovum.”

The experts confirmed that this unique ‘double’ egg would have been perfectly safe to eat, despite its extraordinary formation. However, Scott revealed that they collect around 50,000 eggs each day, so they “didn’t bother eating it.”
