Best Way to Stop Carpet Corners From Curling Up

I’m sure at one point or another we have all experienced the frustration that comes along with curled up carpet corners. Not only do they pose a safety hazard with regard to tripping, they also look unsightly.

I have tried so many “hacks” to try to get this one corner on my area rug to stay down, and while they work for a brief amount of time, the corner always seems to lift its way back up.

Upon doing some research on how to get this rug to lay flat, I came across a product that you stick to the underside of the rug to get it to lay flat. This product was very expensive for what it was, and I knew I could come up with something similar for cheaper.

Read below to find out what I used to keep my area rug from curling up!

Best peel and stick tile!

Keep rugs from moving around with this peel and stick tile that Amazon reviewers swear by!

Here is the stubborn corner on my area rug, that no matter what I tried would not lay flat.

So far I tried wetting it and letting it dry flat, the “ice cube” hack, and weighing it down with heavy furniture.

I considered using double-sided tape to hold it down, but was not prepared to risk damaging our beautiful hard wood floors. I also wanted something that would allow me to easily roll up the rug when I need to clean or vacuum under it.

What I decided to try is a peel and stick tile. Sticking this to the underside of the rug would cause no damage to the hardwood and would still allow me to easily move the rug when needed.

I cut the corner of the tile off large enough to cover the area that was curling up, plus a little extra. This tile was quite thin, so a hefty pair of scissors did the job nicely.

After cutting off the corner piece that I needed, you can see that I still have plenty of tile leftover if ever needed for another corner.

Once you have cut the size needed, simply peel off the protective backing and adhere the corner onto the underside of the rug. Try to get as close to the edge as possible. I butted the tile up to the stitching to ensure it would not be visible once flipped right side. As well if I ever needed to remove the tile, I did not want it caught in the stitching risking it unravelling or fraying.

When I flipped the rug back, I was so happy to see how perfectly flat it laid. The tile helps to weigh down the corner and keep it crisp looking.

I have had this tile stuck to the underside of the rug for over a month, and I can confidently say that it has kept it laying flat the entire time. Since my area rug was thin to begin with, I chose a thin tile from the dollar store because I did not was to feel it under my feet. If you have a thicker, more plush rug, I would recommend getting a heavier peel-and-stick tile. These are easily found at most big box hardware stores and are available to purchase as a single tile.

I think this is such a wonderful solution to a very frustrating problem!
