Follow this simple recipe to create the best scalloped potatoes you’ve ever tasted.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and well combined. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  6. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, spreading it evenly. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the potatoes. Bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the potatoes are tender.
  9. Remove the scalloped potatoes from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Serve these delicious scalloped potatoes as a side dish with your favorite main course, and watch as they disappear from the table in no time. Enjoy!
