The critically acclaimed film portrays the emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in 2009, in which all passengers and crew members were saved. Eastwood remarked in an interview that, had he been in a similar situation as the pilot, he would have risked a water landing instead of going somewhere with no runway. He praised the character of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who kept his wits about him during the emergency and saved so many lives, but was later questioned by the investigative board.
