Crimes may be committed in different ways with some of them being on purpose and others just being a matter of convenience. It seems as if that may have been the case with a hotel guest who overstayed his welcome and checked out without paying a dime.
It started when the guest was only going to stay for a single night at the Roseate House Hotel near New Delhi.
That is a five-star hotel but it seems as if he appreciated the room too much to leave.
This single night extended into almost 2 years of staying and he managed to get away with it, but only temporarily.
According to the Indian Express Newspaper, the guest was able to get around paying the large bill that was accumulated during his stay. He was able to be at the hotel for 603 nights, with a bill of approximately $71,000.
Whenever the guest checked out in January 2021, the bill was not paid. It took time for them to check the records and eventually, they realized that they didn’t get the money they needed.
The hotel board got in touch with the police and complaints were filed against the guest. This included some complaints against staff members who were accused of helping the man to avoid paying his bill.
According to the complaint, the hotel staff ‘allegedly forged, deleted, added and falsified a large number of entries in the account of the said guest.’
I guess you have to pay the piper eventually.
