Snoop Dogg’s Bow Wow Brownies

Is Snoop Dogg a celebrity I absolutely adore? Yes. Is Snoop Dogg the celebrity I would think to turn to for a brownie recipe? Not so much. While Snoop is certainly a man of many talents and he might even have plenty of experience making a certain kind of brownie, he’s just not the first person I’d look to when I’m looking for the ideal classic fudgy brownie recipe. But maybe that attitude should change. Maybe Snoop has the best brownie out there. (He does have a cookbook after all!) We decided to find out.

We made these brownies as a part of our Celebrity Brownie Recipe Showdown. The showdown is a fun project where we take four celebrity recipes — some celebrity chefs, some not so much — cook them, and then taste and compare them to see how they stack up. This match-up included Kris Jenner, Gordon Ramsay, Alton Brown, and Snoop Dogg. They were all very different and delicious in their own right.

What’s In Snoop Dogg’s Brownies?

Snoop’s brownies are based on chocolate chips, which is a nice departure from chopping fancy chocolate and almost as easy as a cocoa powder brownie. He also calls for the usual suspects like flour, salt, vanilla, eggs, and butter, and adds in a couple of outliers like a touch of baking soda and milk.

How Do You Make Snoop Dogg’s Brownies?

The method is a little different from most brownies I’ve made. Snoop has you combine the milk, butter, and sugar in a saucepan and bring it to a boil, then remove it from the heat and stir in some of the chocolate chips, but not all. Once that’s melted, you stir in the eggs and vanilla, followed by the flour, baking soda, and salt. (And no, you don’t really need a mixer here. A spoon and/or a whisk will do just fine.) Before it goes into the oven, you sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips over the top.

How Do They Taste?

I’ll tell you that in a second. First, I want to tell you what a beautiful brownie this is! They’re lighter in color than most brownies but have a gorgeous shiny and crackly top that’s punctuated by dark chocolate chips. Just lovely.

But more importantly, they taste amazing. Everyone in the studio who tried them loved them and was pretty surprised at just how good they were. The texture is beautifully fudgy with a flavor that doesn’t hit you over the head with chocolate. Rather, the overall chocolate flavor is a little muted but then you get pockets of melty sweet chocolate chips which get you right to the chocolate level you want. You get more variation that way… it’s a brownie that’s far from being one note. Way to go, Snoop!

Yield(s): Serves 6

10m prep time

30m cook time

Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 2 1/2 cups milk chocolate morsels
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teapsoon pure vanilla extract
  • Vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, for serving.
Preparation
  1. With a rack in the center position, preheat oven to 325°F. Butter an 8-inch square baking pan and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan set over medium heat, stir together the sugar, butter, and milk. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and add 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate morsels. Stir until melted and smooth.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla to the chocolate. Stir until blended and smooth.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture to melted chocolate, stirring until just combined. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan, then sprinkle the top of the batter with the remaining 1 cup of chocolate morsels.
  6. Place pan in the oven and bake until the brownies are set, 25 to 30 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through the baking time to ensure even cooking.
  7. Remove the brownies from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool in the pan. Once cool, cut into 6 large squares. Serve topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, if desired.
