When a professional dancing couple goes into a competition, they don’t typically step outside of the boundaries. They want to make sure that they do the best job possible but they don’t want to attract any odd attention to themselves and end up blowing the competition and their odds of winning. Every once in a while, however, it is the unusual that makes all of the difference. That was what happened in this routine, and it is one that you will love.
The memorial day weekend is when the USA Grand National Dance Championship is held. Both individuals and couples come together and compete against each other in more than 12 different divisions. One of those different divisions is the Rising Star, and it is for those who are skilled at West Coast swing dancing. When you see these two individuals dancing, however, you might be kind of surprised at what they pull off.
When Bryn Anderson was only five years old, she took her first swing class in West Coast dancing. Ever since that time, she has been improving her dance skills in many different categories, including contemporary, jazz, Latin and even ballet.
Ken Rutherford is also a dancer but he grew up dancing hip-hop. About seven years ago, he decided to switch to partner dancing and we are glad that he did. Some of the other types of dancing that Ken took part in include salsa, swing routines and zydeco.
When these two got together, they were able to sizzle on the dance floor. When the music started playing, everybody was surprised with their choice of a Wild Cherry song, ‘Play That Funky Music’.
You can tell that they really worked hard on their routine and it ended up paying off. These two were able to beat out the other teams and were named the top Rising Stars.
