Sarah Ferguson Pens Heartfelt Note To Princess Diana On What Would Have Been Diana’s 63rd Birthday

Sarah Ferguson is honoring her “dear friend” Princess Diana on what would have been Diana’s 63rd birthday.

Sarah, better known as Fergie, remembered her longtime best friend in a social post on July 1st. In it, she shared a candid photo of herself and Diana enjoying the Battle of Britain Anniversary Parade on September 15, 1990. The two are standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony smiling as they appear to watch a flyover. Along with the picture, Sarah penned a sweet message.

“Happy birthday to my dear friend, Diana,” she began. “You were a pillar of light and love. And what a legacy you have left behind. I will forever remember our laughter and the kindred, kind spirit I found in you.”

“I am sure you are watching over us always. Rest in peace, my friend,” she concluded.

Despite Rumors, Sarah Ferguson And Princess Diana Were “Best Friends” Until Diana’s Tragic Death

Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson were childhood friends, according to People. They met when Sarah was 15, and Diana was 14, and they remained close as they grew up and married into the royal family.

It was because of her friendship with Diana that Sarah met Prince Andrew and eventually married him in 1986. When she said “I do,” she and Diana became sister-in-laws. Sarah and Andrew eventually divorced in 1996, the same year Diana and King Charles ended their marriage.

“I said to her, ‘Oh, Andrew’s really good-looking,’ ” Sarah shared during a 2021 interview with the publication. “And she said, ‘Duh, Fergs!’”

Sarah admitted that she and Diana both suffered from “mental health issues,” largely due to their immense fame and responsibilities. So they leaned on each other for mutual support.

“She said, ‘Fergie, remember one thing, When you’re at the top of the pedestal, it’s so easy to fall off. And you’re at the bottom. You just climb up,’” Sarah remembered her saying. “We were positioned as saint and sinner. And the most important thing was to remain robust together, and we did, no matter what anyone wrote.”

Sarah also dispelled rumors that she and Diana had a falling out following their divorces. Tabloids claimed they were no longer speaking when Diana tragically lost her life in a car crash in 1997. But Sarah said there was absolutely no truth to that.

“We promised each other we would always be together — there was never any daylight between us,” she noted. “But everybody wanted that because we were so strong together. People want to break something so strong.”
