Growing unlimited tomatoes at home – it’s easier than you think

If you’re anything like me, you often find yourself with more food than you can possibly consume. It’s not a deliberate plan, but somehow, I end up eating out more frequently than I intend.

What’s disheartening is throwing away perfectly good food that was just fine a few days ago.

Nowadays, I’m making a conscious effort to adopt healthier eating habits, minimize waste, and save money!

Overripe tomatoes serve as a prime example of food that often goes to waste before we get to enjoy it. But after learning this ingenious trick, you might reconsider tossing them out.

Rather than rushing to the store to buy fresh tomatoes, why not try growing your own right at home? Believe it or not, “The Wannabe Homesteader” YouTube channel demonstrates how you can achieve this in just a matter of weeks using a simple container, some soil, and those old tomatoes!

Here’s how it’s done:
Begin by slicing ripe tomatoes.
Place these tomato slices into a pot filled with soil, and then add a bit more dirt on top.
Water the pot at intervals over 7 to 14 days. You’ll soon notice tomato plants sprouting up.
Once the tomato plants start growing, select the largest and most mature ones and transfer them to a separate pot.
The idea of growing tomato plants from overripe tomatoes hadn’t crossed my mind before, and I’m willing to bet I’m not alone in that. Let’s spread the word and share this fantastic tip with our Facebook friends! Together, we can work towards reducing food waste while relishing the delight of homegrown, juicy tomatoes!
